Small colonies of grey-headed flying foxes (sometimes called fruit bats) have been sighted in the south east of SA, and in Adelaide. DEH is working with government and non-government agencies on a plan to relocate the flying foxes in Adelaide so they can resettle in a more appropriate area. If you see flying foxes roosting in a particular location during the day, call DEH on 08 8336 0926 or email at flyingfoxwatch@sa.gov.au.
No person should handle any bat without being sufficiently vaccinated against rabies. For further details about what to do with bats presented to your clinic, contact Dr Celia Dickason on 8391 7125 or 0423 780 607, or PIRSA's emergency disease hotline (1800 675 888).
